How Electronic Components Are Used Today

An electronic component is something that amplifies or controls voltage without any action on the part of the user or by mechanical means. There are many types of electronic components including capacitors, inductors, transistors, diodes, and resistors, each with a particular function. Electronic components work in electronics through the utilization of electrons. An electric circuit is the path electrons take when discharged from a source of current or voltage. Although every electronic circuit contains three passive components and two that are active, there may be many other components depending on the type of component and the application for which it is being used.

Electronic Components in Communication

Since the invention of electricity, electrical components have been involved in the increasingly versatile ways in which people can communicate. Originally, components were used with early inventions like the electric telegraph machine. Today, almost everyone has a cell phone which is manufactured using a number of electronic components. These include several types of capacitors throughout the phone which filter or store current.

Military and Defense

It is impressive to think that the same types of electrical components that make video games entertaining or make it possible to talk on a small mobile device are also valuable in defending the country. Electronic circuits are completely responsible for controlling the applications used in defense. Radar and defensive weapons connected to an automated control system allow a response to be made when there is a threat that is detected through the radar system.

There are electrical components used in industrial applications, medicine, auto features, and home entertainment. Although the technology behind many of the newest gadgets is revolutionary, the electrical components that make them work without interruption have remained basically the same over time. The science behind the way these components work is consistent and continues to work just as effectively with the new technology as it did when the telegraph or the radio was king.
